A worn clutch
Friday 21st of February 2020
Modern clutches are designed to last for up to 100,000 miles depending on the make and model but for older cars this can be less. Equally, rough driving conditions can quicken the rate of deterioration. You can help to look after your clutch by: checking the brake fluid regularly; avoiding pressing the clutch pedal too quickly; not using the clutch to brake and not towing heavy items.
If your clutch goes go, it will leave you stranded at the side of the road. Therefore it is worth knowing what the signs of a flailing clutch is and to get your car in to us as soon as possible.
Symptoms of a worn clutch are:
1) The clutch requires some force to press down- often referred to as the clutch feeling soft to press.
2) You might experience trouble shifting gears
3) There might be a noise when pressing the clutch
4) The clutch might stick to the floor
If you do think you have a worn clutch, it is best to come in to see us and we can have a look. We will test the clutch and see if you need a repair/ replacement. If you do need a replacement, we will try to look after your wallet, whilst using high quality parts.
